The Crash That Woke Me Up
After nine years as Richard’s full-time wife, Sarah learned mistress Chloe had lasted seven. Their son Leo—Asperger’s, ADHD, epilepsy history—chose Chloe for parent night and called Sarah an uncool “Loser.” Sarah filed for divorce and gave up custody, but Richard wanted her to stay the free nanny. She forced his signature and left with two pairs of flats. Chloe faked Leo’s emergency with ketchup blood; Sarah rushed back, slapped her, and Richard kicked Sarah down the stone steps into a storm. At the ER, Sarah denied having family and told Leo never to call her Mom again. She got a restraining order, retook the bar, and joined a top Manhattan firm. Later, Richard begged her to handle his divorce from Chloe. She refused and slapped him. Chloe stabbed him, Leo asked about trusts, and Sarah made partner. The mother on those rainy steps was already dead.
